Description

Agile Austin is pleased to announce its first Open Space Conference!

An Open Space conference hosted by Agile Austin for the purpose of discussing any and all aspects of Agile software development and project management.  For managers, developers, executives, testers, and anyone with an interest in the techniques and business concerns of agile software projects, the conference will feature a weekend of discussions about agile project management and engineering practices.

Learn, teach, share, grow. Satisfy your curiosity or expand your knowledge and skills about Agile.

If you have never been to an open space conference, you'll find it is much different than a traditional conference. First, there is no detailed scheduled set ahead of time. The first session will form the schedule for the rest of the conference. Conference attendees suggest sessions and volunteer to facilitate them. Sessions can be presentations, chalk talks, or even walks in the park if that's what the attendees want. Also, there is no obligation to attend any sessions or stay for a complete sessions. You can move from session to session as your heart desires. Come with an idea for a session or just with an open mind.

Saturday night’s highlight will feature two panel discussions. The first will consist of five or six notable engineers discussing agile engineering practices, and, following that, a panel of five or six CTOs, and other corporate executives will discuss agile from the executive perspective.

Please join us, won’t you?

Title:                Appropriate Metrics for Agile Teams

Description

How do you measure Agile teams? How do you measure progress, improvement, or even value delivered? Few hard-and-fast “Agile Metrics” have emerged as effective measures. This might seem surprising, but perhaps the temporary and contextual nature of agile metrics explains the emergence of a more heuristic approach. How can teams create metrics “on demand”, in support of their goals, applying their understanding of Agile principles and values to create useful measurement tools on the fly? We call these local, contextual measurement tools “diagnostics” to distinguish them from more long-term metrics used to measure contribution to overall organizational goals.

Since Team metrics or “diagnostics” are highly contextual, they need to be evaluated carefully to know if they are useful. We will present both long term metrics used by the business, and potential diagnostic measures used by the team. We will present our tool for evaluating diagnostic measures for Agile teams, and invite participants to bring their own team metrics to evaluate with this tool. Together we will use this tool, and discuss the agile diagnostics both presented and developed in the session.
